Nunez Family

Aurelio “Willie” Nunez 96, died Sunday October 31, 2021 at his Newton residence.  He was born October 14, 1925 in Newton, Kansas to Jesus and Ventura “Terrones” Nunez. 

On July 6, 1949 he married Jovita “Jo” Hernandez at Newton, Kansas. They shared 64 years together and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2011.

Willie was a lifelong active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus.

Traveling was an enjoyable time for Willie. He especially enjoyed traveling in Mexico. He promised each grandkid to take them on a trip when they turned 10 years old and many fond memories of these trips were made through the years.

With time and patience Willie could repair anything.  He ran Nunez repair in Newton for many years before his retirement. Willie made lifelong friends with many of his customers caring for their routine home maintenance and repairs.

He is survived by his daughters Rita (Ben) Large; Maryann Locken; sons Phillip (Kitty) Nunez and Aurelio “Willie” (Kennan) Nunez Jr.  He is also survived by his sister Frances Gomez and several grandchildren and great grandchildren which he adored.
Willie is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother Max and two sisters Vita Sanchez and Isabel Alanzo.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Monday November 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with The Reverend Jorge Lopez, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Private family inurnment will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Newton.






















Jovita Nunez, 82, died on Saturday (April 2, 2011) at Harry Hynes Inpatient Hospice in Wichita. She was born on Feb. 9, 1929, in Newton to Pedro and Maria (Regalado) Hernandez. On July 6, 1946, she married Aurelio “Willie” Nunez in Newton, and he survives.

Jovita was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. She dedicated her time to the church and was the main coordinator for the adoration chapel at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Jovita enjoyed volunteering her time at Kansas Christian Home and The Newton Kansan. She greatly looked forward to and enjoyed traveling the country to spend time with her loving family and many friends. She was a caring homemaker, loving wife and mother and a dedicated friend to many.

Jovita is survived by her husband of 64 years, Aurelio “Willie” Nunez Sr. of Newton; two sons, Aurelio “Willie” Nunez Jr. and his wife, Kennan of Everett, Wash., and Phillip Nunez and his wife, Kitty of Kansas City; two daughters, Rita Large and her husband, Ben of Grove, Okla., and Mary Ann Locken of Minot, N.D.; two brothers, Rudolph Hernandez of Wichita, and Russell Hernandez of Newton; two sisters, Belen Terrones of Newton and Teresa Alvarado of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, Pepe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be left with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
