Salma Rufus is the son of George Johnson and Delia. He is the grandson of Salma Johnson and Daphne Randall. He is great grandson of Capt. John Johnson (Rev. War and Winthrop Fleet link) and Hannah Clark (Mayflower link). He was educated in Broome County. In the 1880 census, he, wife and daughter are listed as living with his parents as follows:
